Apple Crumb Pie

Apple Crumb Pie

Submitted by Emily Kauffman

When my parents got married, they realized neither of them knew how to cook. My dad is useless in the kitchen (sorry Dad) and my mom had failed her Home Ec class in high school. She spent the next twenty years experimenting and eventually started a successful catering business along the way. She wanted a way to pass her custom recipes to her kids and so she published a cookbook that included this apple crumb pie recipe. We have it every year as a family and it’s delicious!

Ingredients

1 1/4 c. sugar

2/3 c. flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. vanilla

1 Tbsp butter

6 c. apples, peeled and sliced

2 pie crusts

For the crumb:

1 1/2 c. flour

1/2 c. sugar

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 c. butter

Instructions

Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla in a bowl. Toss in apple slices. Spread apple mix in pie crust. Dot with a tablespoon of butter. Mix all crumb ingredients with your hands until nice and crumbly. Cover with the crumb mixture. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes and then 325 for 30 minutes
