Common Roots Urban Farm Newsletter Week #10

Posted on August 9th, 2021 by Josh Poodry

On Sunday of this week, I picked up chickens from friends of ours that are moving out of the city. They couldn't take them where they're moving to so we decided to take them. In our brief but intimate and intense moving session to the farm, I was reminded of a few things about owning chickens:

  • For a flightless bird, they are pretty elusive.
  • Chickens have unique personalities and can be pretty funny and sassy.
  • Regardless of personality, they can be pretty dumb at times.
  • Cleanliness is not a top priority for chickens.
  • Eggs are pretty!

While they can be a little obnoxious and stubborn, I think the effort needed to keep chickens is well worth it. Fresh eggs alone are a great incentive.

If you find yourself at the farm, feel free to give them a visit. And if things go well, you can look for eggs at our farm stand on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We'll let you know!

Eat well and enjoy.
