Farm Happenings for August 26, 2020

Posted on August 22nd, 2020 by Naomi Martz

Well, we've never been so glad to have a few rainy days.  It's been hazy up at the farm the past week, with wildfires nearby started by last weekend's lightning storm, and we are thankful for firefighters and nature's precipitation for helping us all out.  We've got a big week of onion and potato harvesting ahead and (fingers crossed) the sweet corn is doing well so far and should be ready mid-week.  It's crew member Olivia's last week on the farm before she heads off to new adventures for the fall, and we are so grateful to have had her around.  A big smile and can-do attitude goes a long way in the field, and she has brought both to the team along with many other skills from her work in farming and in engineering as well.  Thank you Olivia!

The new veggie refrigeration space is set to be up and running as we fill it up with potatoes, and we are excited to have the extra space to cool and store produce right into the winter months this year.  A reminder that fall shares start September 9th (most of you are signed up for the full season, but if you're on for summer-only and want to continue eating from our farm you'll need to sign up online).  The current full season runs until early November, however we are setting ourselves up to offer a trial "Locavore's Early Winter CSA" beyond that to keep you eating local during the shorter days, so stay tuned for more about that in the coming weeks.

For our Squamish members, you can add FLOWERS this week to your share!  This is likely one of the last week's this will be available, so if you've been waiting to treat yourself now is the time ;)

Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to each and every one of you for being so adaptable and willing to change with the times.  New habits such as giving each other 2m of space, using hand sanitizer, and showing patience for both your farmers at veggie pick up and your fellow harvest share members is so so appreciated.  We know the world is weird right now, we know you've all got a lot on your plate (veggies aside) and we feel so grateful to be feeding you through all of it.

Alright, back to work for me now!  We hope you're enjoying the produce, and we can't wait to see what comes out of the fields this week.
