This week was the dog days of summer alright! The heat at the end of the week was thankfully not too too bad since we had cloud cover. With the hot breeze, I tried to just pretend I was at the beach. Speaking of which, Bryan and I got to take the day off today, which was such a gift. Our crew held down the fort beautifully. We've tried and failed to go on a trip three times this year, so today was a long overdue treat. We planted a bunch more stuff this week - lettuce, leeks, scallions, bok choi, and broccoli raab. We're trying to tackle some weeds, too, though they've got us running scared this time of year! We also picked up a new big machine for us called a rinse conveyor. It will help us get our big storage crops nice and clean for you guys! We'll talk more about it in the newsletter, so stay tuned!
Farm Happenings for September 2, 2020
About the farm
Good Dog Farm is a 25-acre vegetable farm in Upperco, Maryland. We are a Certified Naturally Grown farm and use beyond organic growing practices. By farming with the health of our land and customers as our guide, we ensure you the highest quality and safest produce. We use sustainable growing practices to protect our soil and waterways. We supply our customers in the Baltimore and DC regions with delicious, nutritious food that’s always fresh.
We founded the farm in June of 2016. We grow vegetables year-round thanks to our two high tunnels. Our farm provides a diversity of crops for our Community Supported Agriculture program plus wholesale quantities of unique varieties of storage crops like potatoes, winter squash and sweet potatoes.
Our name comes from our shared love of our three dogs, who remind us to live simply and have fun every day.
