It's funny how, despite the fact that the year is definitely a complete circle, with seasons cycling through over and over, fall always manages to feel like an ending. Even though we know it leads right into winter, which leads into spring, after which follows summer...you get the point. And yet, the changing of the leaves and the cooling of the days makes it feel like something has ended. And despite being my favorite season, it always leaves me feeling a little melancholy, a little deflated. Anyway, three years ago, we started this fall CSA to bridge the gap between our summer and winter shares, and it has been so great. I love the bi-weekly structure of it; it is tailor made to nestle in-between the craziness of summer and the calm restful routine of winter. By taking every other week off from deliveries, we have a number of weeks where the us and the crew can focus on larger projects (like bulk harvesting ALL the 2 acres of potatoes or removing thousands of tomato plants from the tunnels), while also balancing that with taking advantage of this really special weather to grow veggies in. The fall is really neat because the cooler weather (generally) causes veggies to mature more slowly and sweeten up. Plus we're just launching into all the delicious storage veggies that make this time of year so fun to eat in! We hope you enjoy this transition in the seasons and eating with us this fall!
