Here we are, just slightly post peak, post storm, in full winter prep mode, shipping out our last summer shares. It's been a great summer here on the farm, for the most part we've had good staff, pretty good weather, and lots of veggie growing happiness. Looking back at the season, it's hard not to feel pretty proud. When we let farmer friends know we were expecting a baby this spring, we received the advice from multiple people "don't change anything about the farm this year, it'll be too much." For some reason we chose not to heed that advice and way back in the spring, knowing that we were heading into a growing season that was bound to be tough with a new infant, a nearly whole new staff, and a CSA that more than doubled from the year before, Eric and I had a "let's get real" conversation, where we admitted to each other that if this year wasn't a train wreck it would be a rousing success. And I'm feeling pretty proud and grateful at the moment that this season was not a train wreck. Certainly we had the occasional failure, there's definitely room for improvement, and I'm hoping for much more sleep in the future, but all in all we made it through. There is still TONS to do on the farm, but the end of twice weekly harvest/wash/pack/deliveries, relieves a lot of the pressure of the schedule and allows us to hunker into long tasks, like bulk harvesting carrots, organizing barns so we can put things away before the snow, and cleaning onions so they can go into cold storage. These things take LOTs of time, but a little less brain power, and at this time of the year, we're all ready for some auto-pilot, before launching further into planning mode. Anyway, thank you all for joining us this summer, being part of our first season as a family of three, and doing your darndest to eat local produce and support local small businesses.
