We're 3 deliveries (of 4) in to our Spring CSA, and we're starting to see spring springing all over the place! Greens abound in this week's share - so many options - baby kale! spinach! spicy salad mix! baby arugula! The seasons first radishes! We've also got fresh herbs dill and cilantro to bring a springy pop of flavor to your salads and dishes this week!
On the farm, we've got a few more cold nights in the coming days, but then it looks like we're moving past freeze warnings (for a little bit at least) which means we'll be pushing some boundaries and tempting the weather fates and putting the first tomatoes and cucumbers into our unheated (no propane here!) high-tunnels! This past week we had enough drying to make some beds and plant what will be the season's first broccoli and cauliflower. This wind is giving us a bit of a run for our money as it tosses around the row-cover meant to keep all the little seedlings unfrosted in these last few cold nights, but Eric and Iona are in the field now, tucking the plant babies in for the night.
The summer season is truly on it's way!
