Week 12 Abundance! Like life, farming is sometimes a lot of stress, other times, a lot of joy. August in all it's glory is a mess of both. But it's hard not to feel joy watching buckets full of beans and tomatoes and eggplant and peppers and melon start to stack up in the cooler - and then head out again! Aside from some greens and root veggies, we have a very summer share for you this week! So. many. melons. We plant multiple plantings of cantaloupe and watermelon to extend the summer harvest as long as possible, but despite our springtime timing efforts, the heat of the summer has brought them all in at once, so our melon abundance is wonderous! We're hoping it will continue for the next few weeks. And these melons (as you've likely tasted) are no far-shipped, harvested green melons from out west. These are vine ripened, local, Maine sun and earth grown sugar-y treats! Sarah has added some tips below to enjoying these fresh melons.
Reminder! As this is week 12 and this is a 16 week CSA, you have 4 weeks following this delivery to enjoy your summer veggies! Held shares cannot be refunded or transferred to another season, so please reschedule accordingly. We'll continue to emails reminders, but always best to take care of it now :)
We also have all the fixings to make SALSA this week - onions! garlic! jalapenos! sweet peppers! AND most important of all - TOMATOES! We have bulk tomatoes available for this week, both regular tomato seconds and proper paste tomatoes in bulk for all your salsa/sauce/canning needs!
