Well we have finally reached our final delivery of the season up to all our friends in Lake Barcroft. We are so incredibly grateful for y'alls support throughout the spring, fall, and summer. Some of my highlights have been our delicious tomatoes, trying every different kind of baked good Seasons Yield Farm was baking, and that delectable chorizo from Anathallo Acres. For our final sale we are focusing on the bulk items. The things you can fill you freezer, basement, and pantry with so you are stocked with nourishing food all winter. When I moved down to the farm I started reading about how people would can and preserve food from the summer to extend that harvest bounty all through the year. I started stocking our own pantry full of tomato sauces, pickles, applesauce, and pickled vegetables. It was so amazing to be able to grab a can of roasted tomato sauce from the summer and open up that flavor in February. We also filled our basement full of squash, potatoes, and sweet potatoes that kept all winter. And let me tell you that was a tall order to grow enough potatoes to keep Shane full all winter. He can eat potatoes 3x a day and never get tired of them.
Knowing we have a cache of food stored away like squirrels bury nuts for winter made going through the pandemic a lot easier. We didn't have to run to the grocery store all the time for staples, instead we could stay on the farm and stay safe. We are so blessed to have this security and space and we want to share it with you all! With that in mind we have thought up some wonderful bulk meat orders that will give you a variety of cuts but will still be a manageable size for city people. Not everyone can have a walk in freezer and fridge to store their food so we pared down from a whole cow or a whole lamb to a mix of the best cuts. If anyone is interested in larger portions though please feel free to reach out to me!
We are ready for the season to slow down and take a little bit of time to rest. We are grateful for the cyclical nature of farming that puts us in overdrive during the growing and harvesting season but lets us slumber deeply in the off season. Wait... am I turning into a bear. I hope you all have a restful winter and will join us next season for more food fun! I also have a big ask for all of you. Our business spreads most through word of mouth so if you have been happy with Meadow Wood Farm and could recommend us to a friend in the neighborhood or write about your experience with us in LakeLink that would go such a far ways to helping us reach even more people. Thank you so much for a wonderful season and see you on Friday and then next year!
