First Share of the Season

Posted on June 14th, 2019 by Merridy Senior

It's that time of the season already, it's hard to believe the CSA shares are beginning! We have been busy tending young seedlings since mid-March with the starting of pepper seeds, then tomatoes, as the weeks went on more and more seeds were started and kept warm before being able to safely live in a greenhouse. We have been starting a lot more seeds this year to get them up and going before being transplanted into the ground. This gives them a head start, allows us to keep them weeded from an early stage and also allows us more control over their germination conditions. By starting produce early to transplant out we can have certain veggies ready earlier than if we direct seeded them into the ground. We started our first pea planting early this year and transplanted them at the end of March into a greenhouse, giving us the opportunity to send sweet, crunchy peas home with you in the first share of the season! The outdoor garden beds are quickly filling up as well and we love to see the garden fill with rows of green. More and more produce will be ready as the weeks go by and we look so forward to sharing our harvest with you this season!

Enjoy!
