Farm Happenings for October 22, 2020

Posted on October 17th, 2020 by Ryan Thompson

Sorry for getting the email out a little later then normal today.  We were busy today at the farm between our farmers market in St. Paul and the farm stand and trying to get everything protected from the weather we have coming up. We got two layers of frost protection over our broccoli and cauliflower to help protect them from the weather.  I’m hoping they will survive this really cold snap because they are so close to being able to harvest  it would be a shame if they didn’t make it!!  We have some really nice radishes bunches that will be coming out oF the high tunnel this coming week and the salad turnips are about 1 week out to harvest also.  We will have the salad mix again this week too that has turned out wonderful.

This week we were able to get all the potatoes harvested and they look awesome so there will be no shortage of those this year. Still have plenty of squash too.

We hope everyone enjoyed their apple crisp you received this last week. This week we will be doing our flat bread and will be offering our dilly beans in this weeks boxes. The flat bread will be perfect for serving with soup or toasting it, putting some jam on it. There will also be a newer squash in the box called butterkin. It’s a cross between a butternut and pie pumpkin. It’s a perfect cross to have the flavor and texture as butternut but sweet like a pie pumpkin.

We hope everyone is doing well.

Your farmer,

Ryan
