Wouldn’t it be amazing if when you ate pie you were supporting local teens and farmers? Now you can! Learning Shack, a nonprofit that teaches teens marketable skills and social entrepreneurship, is delighted to be partnering with TRACTOR Food and Farms on their Jam n’ Pie Project. Thanks to the generosity of the Mountain Air Community Fund, teens will be selling their homemade pies each week on the TRACTOR Food and Farms Farefield website! Starting this week, you can order handmade pie made from local and seasonal fruit transformed into scrumptiousness by local teens in Reconciliation House’s certified commercial kitchen. Learning Shack teens have been practicing for the last 4 weeks. You have never met a group of such hard-working teens! Supervised by the fabulous retired teacher Lori Mehnert, youth have been practicing making their homemade pie crust, perfecting their filling made with fresh fruit, and decorating them with all kinds of fancy pie-beautification techniques. This week, Learning Shack’s Jam n’ Pie Project is excited to announce that Raspberry Pie is on the menu!
Learning Shack was founded to create connections, opportunities and hands-on learning experiences for youth. Social entrepreneurship projects like the Jam n’ Pie Project gives them the opportunity to learn the art of making pie (we're still perfecting our jams!), to have the discipline and work ethic to show up week after week to create something for their community, and to make and manage their money. On Track Financial Services is providing coaches for each participating youth to help them responsibly manage their profits. Learning Shack is so grateful to TRACTOR Food and Farms, The Reconciliation House, Mountain Air Community Fund and On Track and you for supporting our teens. All proceeds from the sale of the pies go to our young pie-makers. Thanks for ordering your pie today!
