Farm news for July 10

Posted on July 8th, 2020 by Paul Neufeld

A new crew of interns arrived at A Rocha and over this past week they have been hard at work on the farm.  Brodie, Laura and Elliot are now getting their hands into your food (don't worry, they wash 'em regularly!) and we are enjoying their super positive and curious attitudes.  As you know, there has been some unseasonably cool and rainy weather - remaining positive must be a choice when it is cold in July! Of course cool weather is great for lettuce, but the cukes, melons and tomatoes would dearly love a bit of heat!  It seems warmer days are settling in now!...

All the rain has accelerated the growth of weeds - if you'd like to help us catch up on weeding, come to our volunteer day this Saturday.  There are still a few spots left (you have to sign up).

This week I received a couple of recipe recommendations from CSA members.  I'm excited to try both of them.  Feel free to share recipes and ideas!  Luke and Janessa (who helped pick a lot of snow peas at the farm this week - so grateful) highly recommend that you try this recipe for zucchini butter!  Think... lovely herbed spread reminiscent of Baba Ghanoush.  Freezes well.

CSA member Kristin writes "I made this recipe and used beet greens, spinach, and turnip greens - a great (and delicious) way to get all those greens in! https://cookieandkate.com/west-african-peanut-soup/ (I added red lentils for more protein and some red peppers and a can of coconut milk for even more creaminess)."

Are you social??  The farm doesn't have a separate Instagram account.  I've started to use #arochacsa for farm posts on Instagram.  You can follow that #hashtag and post your own veggie and meal photos and ideas with #arochacsa  You might also consider following A Rocha Canada - occasional farm posts do appear on Instagram and Facebook.
