I live at Kingfisher Farm, 7 Km down the road from Brooksdale. Kingfisher is a partner in A Rocha's sustainable agriculture program - we grow an acre of veggies and flowers at Kingfisher, and all the transplants grown for both farms are started at Kingfisher. Yes, we are still transplanting - hundreds of seedlings are still going into the ground weekly to ensure a steady supply of vegetables until October. This week we have transplanted kale, broccoli and lettuce and we seeded carrots, beets, parsnips, spinach and cilantro. In July it is easy to neglect these tasks - our attention is divided since harvesting and CSA box packing take up a large chunk of our days... where will we find the time to seed and transplant, never mind prepare the ground and weed the already established plantings? Good thing the days are long...
Highlight of the past week: new baby goats. Really they are the sweetest farm animals going. Our small Kingfisher goat heard of 4 mamas has now become a mess of goats with 8 new kids. What fun! We are thankful for uneventful labours and delivery and that mamas and kids are safe and healthy.
