The Lettuce Gap! Every year we seed and transplant lettuce weekly from late April until August in order to ensure a consistent supply for you all through the season. When it all works out we have heads of lettuce enough for everyone consistently from June to October. Sometimes a seeding doesn't germinate well, or creatures eat the seedlings, or a hot week causes the all the lettuce to mature at once. In other words, we do our best, but sometimes it doesn't work out as planned. For a variety of reasons we have just run out of lettuce, a will be taking a week or 2. We hope to return you to your regularly scheduled lettuce program soon!!
Eggs, cheese, pickling cukes, basil and blueberries - oh my!
We have a few extras for sale this week and more exciting things coming:
-We were able to get our hands on some eggs from long-time partner True North Hatchery. Get 'em while you can.
-We have brought in some new cheeses - Feta, which needs no introduction. Caerphilly is a favourite in my kitchen. A specialty of Little Qualicum, the Caerphilly is describee as a "unique Welsh-inspired cheese... firm, crumbly texture and buttery tang of lemon. Melts beautifully in sauces or over vegetables." We also have some Qualicum Spice - "creamy rich and savoury... flavoured with garlic, onion, and paprika".
-Pickling cukes are picking up - buy a bag and make your own.
-We'll be adding limited amounts of 1 lb. bulk basil to inventory over the next few weeks. For those who like love their pesto...
-Fresh Blueberries - certified organic from Minke Farm, our neighbours just up the road in Langley. Available in 5 lb or 10 lb boxes.
