This week marks the beginning of summer! The box is slowing changing with the season. We are starting to see increased production in the cucumbers....but our tomatoes are slow to ripen this year. Not sure why. Weird forecast this week. Everyday in the 10 day forecast shows a 50% chance of rain and storms. Farmers always talk about the weather right? It is the X factor in our livelihood....will it rain enough? will it rain too much? will it freeze late? But there are patterns, even with the current state of our erratic climate. We have had consistent RAIN the last several years in the summer. Last drought for our area was in 2012. We are doing our best to adapt our production to be more climate resilient, and have changed our growing practices quite a bit in the last several years. Some practices are working well, including using an Annual ryegrass in the aisles between crop rows to soak up all the excess moisture. It also helps to keep the crops cleaner and out of the mud. Growing high quality vegetables in KY is a big challenge because of our moisture and humidity. More on that in another farm happening.

About the farm
We are a seventh generation family farm, raising certified organic vegetables for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and Farmers Markets. We also raise pastured chicken, 100% grassfed beef and offer pastured pork. We raise food with the intention of taking care of the land: growing healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy animals, and healthy people. Since we are a seventh generation family farm, caring for the land and soil for our children and the next seven generations is at the forefront of our farming practices. We nourish the soil with compost from our farm, and other natural ways to bring nutrients and minerals back to the land to improve the health of the soil, land and crops. We work to maintain a balanced, healthy soil to help grow healthy plants and food. We see our farm as part of a larger community-- a network of people who are interdependent with each other. We grow healthy food for our family, friends and community.
