I’ve been really struggling with how to write about how our farm is dealing with the coronavirus. I’ve had no less than 3 different drafts of blog posts that I decided to scrap because they just didn’t feel right.
Really, what we want to say is that we are planning on planting everything we planned on before the coronavirus spread to the United States. We’re planting all the same seeds, in the same or greater quantities than before. We are still planning on constructing our new pack shed. Our farm will carry on this year and how we get our produce to your kitchen is just details.
We are ready, eager and prepared to grow food for you. We are here for you and because of you and we will find a way to make sure you can access our produce.
We do have some logistical changes we need to make in order to make sure we're not spreading the virus.
- We are asking you to bring your own shopping bag or container for your produce if you're picking up at the Mankato Farmers Market. We will not be sending our wooden crates home with you each week. If you forget your bag, we will have plastic shopping bags available.
- If you're picking up at the Saint Peter Food Co-op, you'll receive your produce in a box or shopping bag.
- We will likely re-use boxes but will purchase enough boxes such that we can isolate the boxes for 1 week before re-use. The current consensus is that the virus does not live more than 3-4 days on surfaces.
- If you are sick or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 please reschedule your share using Harvie OR have a friend or neighbor who is well pick up your share.
- If we, your farmers, get sick or experience COVID-19 symptoms we will reschedule shares for when we are well.
- We will have hand sanitizer and/or hand soap available at our farmers market pickup locations.
Please let us know if you have any questions and stay safe and well!
