This past week we installed shade cloth on most of our tunnels to help our plants beat the heat. Shade cloth comes in different densities that helps reduce the temperature inside our tunnels by blocking some sunlight and absorbing some of the heat from in the tunnels. Since we have so many hours of sunlight this time of year and temperatures are reaching well into the 90s consistently shade cloth helps provide some protections for our most delicate plants. We'll leave the shade cloth up until around September when temperatures start to lower and as our sunlight begins to diminish.
We've also been hard at work on weeding on the farm. We like to have the majority of the weeding done by this time of year and while it's never truly done, usually by July the weed pressure drops considerably. That's lucky because July is also when the farm really picks up on production. We'll soon be picking snap peas, green beans, summer squash and so much more!
