At Fry Farm... Goodness Grows!

Posted on January 29th, 2019 by Lisa Merva

Welcome to Week 4 of our 2019 Winter CSA!

We sincerely hope you are enjoying the steady flow of seasonal veggies into your life. Have you tried something new? Made something delicious? Feel free to tag us on Instagram (@collectiveharvest) or Facebook.

This week you'll notice a new offering available for purchase in our "delivery extras"-- the Fry Farm family has grown some loofah (or luffa) to share with you. You are probably familiar with loofah, but did you know that it comes from the from a vine in the cucumber family? The fruit becomes fibrous as it matures and when dried, can be used to scrub up in the bath, to clean pots in the kitchen, and more! You could cut one loofah into several pieces and use it all over the house. Check out this article for more thrifty ideas.

What else are the kind folks at Fry Farm up to?... Here is an update from Bethlehem, GA:

"We are very excited about the upcoming growing season here at Fry Farm. This is an exciting time as we iron out our crop planning, order seeds, start transplants, amend soil, and more!  We have plans to build a new pack shed before the busy spring season to wash and prepare our harvests more efficiently.  This is exciting because we put a lot of effort into post-harvest prep as it really improves the quality of the final product.  It brings us great joy to wow customers with produce that they just can't find at the supermarket - both in quality and variety.  We are also in the process of adding two new grow tunnels to extend our seasons and bring you more veggies!  Our family is passionate about farming responsibly and we just can't wait to see how we grow in 2019, pun intended. We are thankful to be a part of Collective Harvest!"

And we are thankful for the smiling faces and resplendent vegetables of Fry Farm!

As always, we are SO grateful for our CSA members' support of local family farms. We couldn't do it without you!

Let's eat!
