The wide variety of crops being harvested this time of year is amazing, customize your box to pick your favorites! September brings the first of the winter squash in from the fields and into boxes - this week we have delicata squash. Cantalope from Community Harvest, plums from the Apple Farm, Sungold tomatoes from Buckle Farm, poblano peppers from Seven Moon Farm, shallots from South Paw Farm, sweet corn from Community Harvest, different varieties of basil and lots of greens all available this week. We have some bulk offerings of herbal tea mix, heirloom and slicing tomatoes. If you've been wanting to order a flower bouquet don't wait, get one while they're still available. Cheese, yogurt, bagels, grains, meats, fish, ferments and more all available to add to your boxes during customization.
If you didn't see last week's Farm Happenings we introduced Tru Fin, a Portland, Maine based seafood company on a mission to make fish better for the ocean, harvesters, and for all of us! Their conscientiously caught seafood can be added to your Daybreak Farm Box during customization. More about True Fin here.
Update from Marr Pond Farm
At Marr Pond Farm peak harvest season is definitely here. We're harvesting every day now, from crates (upon crates) of zucchini, to armloads of cut flowers, we're busy! We're enjoying growing some gorgeous scallions, broccoli, and cabbage of all sorts for your Daybreak shares. The most exciting crop for us is always watermelon, which we just started harvesting this week, nothing beats those first few warm and juicy melons cut and eaten out in the field! As we edge towards fall we're bringing some of the largest cipollini onions and shallots we've ever grown in to cure, with an eye towards our big fall projects; putting up two more 30 x 96 high tunnels, and sprucing up our wash pack area. If you want to see what's happening around the farm check out our facebook or instagram pages. Enjoy your veggies!
