Hey folks! We packed this week’s shares in freezing rain and 38 degree weather - a far cry from last year’s beautiful early May weather. And though we would prefer to curl up in front of the mid-May fire with a cup of tea, we shall overcome this temptation and deliver shares through any weather! This coming week we have some lovely spring treats: sunchokes, radishes, scallions, and spinach. Take advantage of this cool weather & roast the sunchokes while you still want to have the oven going! (Click on that link for all the info you could ever need about sunchokes!)
Meat for the Local meat share is coming in part from Roaring Lion Farm in Sedgewick. They raise grass fed beef and pastured Meishan pigs, you can read about them (and see great pictures!) here.
And here’s some farm news from South Paw Farm in Freedom:
Fields are wet but it is giving us time to get our greenhouses planted, lube up machinery and clear out storage. One project this Spring is moving a greenhouse from a wet, boggy area over to nice ridge-top ground---not sure why we didn't put it there in the first place. Anyways, we've gotten pretty fast at greenhouse construction, but demolition is a new one for us. Our bucket loader has been our best friend. Crops coming along are kale and chard for bunches (pictured) and peas! Won't be long now.
