This week we are bringing in winter squashes from Forman Farms! They were such a hit last year that we have decided to do it again!
We have our own winter squashes growing as well and we will harvest them all this week and start the curing process. It sure feels like soup season is starting and I'm pretty excited for the butternuts myself!!
This weekend Pat has been working on getting the last of the transplants and seeds in the ground for our fall crops. Many crops are already growing but we want to make sure we have lots planted outside since we are limited by our greenhouse space now that the big one is out of commission (due to the fact that we are working to fix the soil). We've come up with a strategy involving our cat tunnels to make up for the lack of greenhouse space.
As the weather cools, the greens should get tastier and tastier! Cool season greens are the BEST so you can anticipate lots of those in the weeks to come.
We don't have any beets or carrots available this week since we are waiting for them to size up a bit more. That's the tricky part about this time of the year...everything is delicious but the shorter daylight hours and the cool temps tend to slow down certain crops... while at the same time enhancing others. The lack of rain is definitely not helping but our irrigation is still working smoothly so we aren't worried.
Enjoy your veggies this week!
