Wow, what a storm that was!! We hope everyone is ok! Weather like that really shows us just how powerful nature is!!
Thankfully we have no damage at our place and the veggies are all still tucked happily into the soil. Our greenhouses survived the strong winds just fine. It wasn't pleasant to watch the plastic rippling in the wind, but we just crossed our fingers and tried to calm our thoughts.
For some of you this will be your first week of veggies! Welcome to our CSA program and please reach out to me, Marnie, if you've got any questions or concerns. I'm here to help!
Last week was somewhat eventful for us...
We started off the week by training our new crew members the harvest/wash/pack routine. They were amazing and picked it all up very quickly! We are confident they will be able to pull things off this week with minimal help. Thanks team!!!
We ran into some hiccups when our minivan decided not to cooperate for deliveries on both Wednesday AND Thursday! Thankfully we have Sarah on our team because she saved the day, twice!!
It just so happened that while we were having minivan issues we were also in the process of purchasing an actual delivery van! It will be on the road this week so keep an eye out for Sarah in larger white van if you don't see the minivan at your pickup spot.
The harvest this week will be mostly greens (romaine, kale, spinach and lettuce), rhubarb and scallions. There are some herbs from Sarah as swaps including chives and mint! There are also seedlings available as swaps so be sure to scroll through the options if you like to grow your own veggies at home.
The seedlings are all plants that we have had success with here on the farm so hopefully they will work for you with adequate care and attention!
Pictured above is the view in the big greenhouse. The greens are gradually being harvested and the tomatoes are starting to take over. There are many fruit sets and they are over 6 ft tall! Pat did the first "lower and lean" this weekend!! Cherry tomatoes are coming soon!
Our crops outside and in the unheated houses are coming along nicely. They have been growing a bit slowly with the cooler temperatures but are starting to take off now.
Enjoy your veggies this week!
