Farm Happenings for March 20, 2020

Posted on March 17th, 2020 by Mattie Serna

Greetings Farm Fans -

I just got off the phone with one of my favorite farmers--Scott Goodpasture from Pioneer Farms wants to know if there is any interest amongst our subscribers for "Farmers Toilet Paper"... Bunches of Cottonwood leaves are available in abundance!  The lesson to learn from this tale is that our farmer friends are in good humor in these strange times!  Frankly, our farmers are in a pretty comfortable situation.  They are socially distanced by default, focused on tending their rows of crops, and well-provisioned.  This is yet another example of how our small scale food system is both more sustainable and more safe than industrial agriculture.

I have confirmed with every pick-up location that they are open and all-in to continue with farm share pickups!  It is eye-opening to realize the importance of local food distribution during times of societal interruption--and the commitment of our volunteers, farmers, and partners to this program is heart-warming!

A couple of important notes:

*** If your pickup is normally at the Churchill County Library - you will pickup this week at Lattin Farms***

Beef is coming this week!  If you are a meat subscriber, please be prepared to receive your beef delivery.  Ground Beef has been in short supply in Fallon (I would imagine this is also true of Washoe and Carson).  The Sanford Family (our beef partner) is anticipating having a fresh supply of ground beef in about a week.  I am working on coordinating a special ground beef order for our subscribers so keep an eye on "extras" in the coming weeks to add some local ground beef to your veggie box.

We hope that this weeks delivery finds you all in good health and positive spirits.  Social distancing is hard--if done right, it will look and feel like an overreaction.  I encourage you all to be like our farmer partners--get your hands in the dirt, avoid going to town, and keep a great sense of humor!

Thank you for your support of Nevada Farmers!
