The type of squash we have this week (from Purslane Farm) is called Thelma Sanders. It is essentially an acorn squash but sweeter than most acorns and the skin is tan. There is also baby lettuce mix available from Purslane Farm. Those who got lettuce last week may have been surprised to see the baby mix. We had planned to have our usual head lettuce, but the deer got to it the night before we planned to pick. So a quick substitution saved the day. This is the same mix we offered at the beginning of the season.
New things from the fields at Gravel Road Farm include radishes and napa cabbage. We also harvested sweet potatoes this week, but they require some curing time to develop their flavor and sweetness. Look for them over the final two weeks of the CSA season.
