Snap peas are available again this week in the vegetable boxes. They only last for two weeks out of the summer, maybe three if we are lucky. Cauliflower this week is a special offering from our market friends, Lee Family Farm. They have been farming and selling at the Waupaca market longer than us, and it feels great to include them in our CSA. We are also trying to arrange to have some microgreens available from another Waupaca market vendor, Summers Garden. We were not able to confirm that prior to launch though, so if you are interested, please check back later. You'll be able to swap them into your box or buy them as an add-on.
We are cooking up all the amazing food our land provides and enjoying it so much. We’ve made chopped salads- just chop everything you have in small dices (lettuce, snap peas, kohlrabi, cucumbers, turnips, radishes) and mix with a dressing. We saute two bunches of kale and add it to pasta and of course a little bacon. We’ve made hot lettuce wraps with spiced lentils and ground lamb and cucumber dressing. Then there was the yummy lamb fajitas with shredded lettuce, and scallions and last year's frozen peppers. I hope you have been discovering some delicious meals with all your produce.
The flower bouquet CSA started last week, but this week will be the first bouquet for some of the bi-weekly shares. There will be extra bouquets to add on to your box for a one time purchase. For pick up and at our pick up spots, your bouquet will be in a little wooden box and mason jar with your name/sticker on it. If you get delivery, it will be packed in your CSA box. Please leave the little wooden box out for us to get the following week, just like the vegetable crates.
SAVE THE DATE! Flower Bar- Sunday -August 14th- “Articipation” Week Kick Off. IN WAUPACA Make your own bouquet from all the great flowers in season that week. This event is FREE and sponsored by the Waupaca Community Arts Board.
We said goodbye to some sheep that we sent onto another farm this weekend. We carefully choose them to be a breeding flock for a new generation of sheep farmers. It's exciting to see our 10 years of work be carried on. We still have 30 sheep on the farm looking for new homes, but we are excited for the prospect of changing our workload to focus more on our vegetables, flowers, and mushrooms.
