We are days away from the first days of fall (and the equinox) and the world is starting to show it. We had a very light frost this past week that left most of our tender crops untouched, but this weekend brings down the hammer on summer. We have a string of cold nights coming that will certainly bring and end to our field peppers, basil, and a few other tender things. It will also sweeten our greens and roots for our fall and winter crops. The beginning of frosts and the equinox mark a change on the farm. The shorter days and colder nights, slow all the plants' growth so that things enter a bit of a stasis. Much of what we'll be harvesting through the next several months has been planted and is either grown, or will ever so slowly creep towards fulls-sized until November or December when we harvest it for boxes then.
We're slowly headed towards what growers call the "Persephone" period, when the days are so short and dark that nothing grows at all, all the plants hunker down and wait for the rays of spring before they begin to grow again. we're still a ways away, but these frosts remind us it's on it's way.
And in the midst of finishing this email, the country has lost a true hero of our time. Rest in Power RBG. This year is just too much...

What to expect:
Our Autumn shares are designed to highlight vegetables that are at their peak in the fall. Crunchy leafy greens, winter squash, freshly harvested potatoes, frost sweetened broccoli, and more! Items in each share mostly have a longer storage life than the perishable fruit of summer, so you can expect a share to last you through two weeks of local eating.
Just like in the summer, you can add eggs, cheese, yogurt and more to your shares at sign-up or weekly as available.
