Welcome back farm family! I always find this return to the real world after the holidays to be like coming out of a movie theater or opening the curtains in a darkened room - it feels a little blinding and a little jarring. Like you're on a treadmill that you have not quite caught up with yet. This year is no exception, my brain is still somewhere back amidst the stockings and epic baking sessions, yet I am needed here, writing a newsletter, a loan application, a harvest list - the list goes on and on. I'm sure you all know the feeling as kiddos head back to school and work starts up again. And now we're all back on the veggie train too!
The crew was hard at work at the end of this week trying to get ahead of the suuuper freezing temps coming our way early next week, allowing Eric and I to work on the big "office" tasks at hand, namely next Summer's launch and the plans for building our new wash and pack facility on the farm. You'll be hearing a lot about this new facility as the project is really starting to pick-up steam due to Eric's really hard work over the last month or so. As a farm, we've grown exponentially over the last 7 years, but where we wash, pack, and store all our produce has stayed relatively the same, and is quite tiny. This coming year, we're determined to change that and add a whole new building to the farm that will house a much larger cooler, offices, staff space, and a whole new space for washing veggies so we can do a major equipment upgrade (less heavy lifting - yay!). Putting all of this planning together on top of the regular running of the farm is a challenge, but we have such an amazing team, it's incredible to see what gets done each day even with Eric and I completely distracted by other things. It takes a great team to grow a farm and all your veggies, and thankfully that's what we've got! Stay-tuned!
Some other things to look out for from the farm:
1) Summer sign-ups are just around the corner (late January) - and we're doing something new this year to make things go suuuuper smooth - we're expanding auto-renew so that if you're opted in for auto-renew, your summer sign-up happens automatically. We will have much more information forth-coming about this in the coming weeks, but if you currently want to check whether your are opted in to auto-renew check here: Check subscription status Please take a look
2) We have a huge infrastructure project getting started on the farm, and building projects mean loans which mean business plans -so fun. We could use your help, in the next day or two you will see an email with a survey about purchasing from the farm. Please help us fill in some market research gaps by answering this survey!
Happy New Year from your farmers at Harvest Tide!
