The start of week three and things in the field are starting to magically appear! We have baby summer squash developing, tomatoes starting to flower, cucumbers starting to form, and strawberries starting to ripen the full harvest will soon be upon us! I anticipate strawberries for the week of July 8th, if we have them sooner we will bring to drop offs as a side for the share I just wasn't confident enough to commit!
With the heat comes stress on some plants that have had a steady cool thus far, so our Napa Cabbage is perfectly imperfect we are harvesting it before it decides to go to flower. This means it is not as dense as the grocery store napa & holds a lot more color it is still great for Lazy Mans Cabbage Rolls or Kim chi! (If you are at a loss for a recipe google as I don't have one to offer, I just wing it!)
Kohlrabi & garlic scapes are the new items on the list this week!
I have some sad news after three seeding attempts at sweet corn only one has decided to grow! It is certainly a year of instability and I feel for all the farms that have only just gotten on their land! I have been reading a lot of articles predicting the increase of food prices do to the trickle down effect of the environmental challenges, and feel more and more the importance of creating local food security, and eating seasonally! We can be the change and our choices are making a difference.
See you at drop offs!
Cheers, Jess
