Farm Happenings for the week of December 4, 2021

Posted on November 30th, 2021 by Jessica Foote

Hello All,

So a day late, but bright and early at least! We had some internet challenges yesterday, what is new?

What is new on the farm this week you might ask? Well Jess and Jessalynn took a little two day working holiday! And went to visit farming friends at Fiddle Foot. So great to hang out, exchange ideas, and hike a beautiful rolling farm. They reminded me of my journey towards bio dynamics, they have farmed bio dynamically out the gate, and it is my goal to eventually practice Bio dynamics, although every attempt at a course saw the course cancelled. Not meant to be at that time and place! It truly emphasizes the connection to the land as a complete ecosystem, and the connection to the cosmos, really the magic of nature, farming , and being a steward of the land. More on that in the future??? I feel like I am ready...

Another fun item! We have gotten the horses out finally, their three month holiday is over! They are getting ready to offer sleigh rides for you and your family this beautiful winter season! It was so fun to take the kids around the block with Calvin & Peg, we laughed, we sang, and I wondered what took me so long??? My I am whole when I am working with my beautiful team, and we read each others minds, the connection is beyond words.

For this week we have lots of Bok Choi, the last of our green field kale, some spinach, the last of our butternut, be prepared to make soup! WE ARE LISTING ALL OF THEM FOR 1$ EACH! They will also freeze if you aren't ready to use these guys right away! They are all imperfect damaged, dented, or needing a spot cut out, but there is to much food to waste, and the cost and availability in the grocery store has made me more & more aware of how fragile our food system is, and how important it is to utilize everything to its' full potential. My grandmothers "Waste not, want not", keeps coming back to me. And I am not going to lie I have always saved my bacon grease for cooking, have started rendering lard again from our own pork, and of course everything we don't use is given to the livestock. The rabbits, cattle, pigs, and dogs enjoy the farms bounty as much as we do, and keep everything from going to waste.

Finally check out the mini market order form for some fun add on items if you are looking for stocking stuffers, honey, earrings (made by Cheesle), maple syrup, cookies, etcetera. It is posted on our FACEBOOK page!

If you are looking for an escape from the city and winter temperatures, you can come help us weed the high tunnels and enjoy some fresh air, and sun! We would enjoy extra company, it is quite around here!

Take care and see you this weekend!

Cheers your farmer,

Jess
