Farm Happenings for the week of June 14, 2022

Posted on June 10th, 2022 by Jessica Foote

Hello All!

Well we got through week one! As per usual a few computer glitches based on my mistakes, or my vibes that they don't like! Since everything electronic seems to shut down or malfunction in my presence! The listings where not all clearly labeled! I will let you know now Spinach & cilantro is from Willo' Wind our beds where cleaned out for tomatoes after the spring basket program was completed! Anything that we add to our shares to give you more variety is 100% organically grown, but may not be certified, which is why I tell you upfront for transparency if something is from another farm. We rarely bring anything in, however if we do it is for you to get more variety & so food isn't wasted at friends farm!

The Winter Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Eggplants, Peppers, Ground Cherries, Tomatillos, along with a few other crops I can't remember went in the ground this past week! And before the weekend I am truly hoping we have all our 4th planting of brassicus (Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels) in the ground! Working around the rain has been interesting but at least everything is getting watered in! But the weeds! Hahaha! If anyone wants an honest workout, we have lots of weeding! I am pretty certain we will have no takers! But I always put it out there anyway!

Once this major planting is completed, and the pressure lowers a little Jessalynns' Farm Star Petting Zoo will open! She is pretty excited about sharing the animals with everyone! Especially baby Benji the little goat! She has taught him to jump on her back when she is on all fours, for goat yoga! I told her it might be a mistake! But we will see! He is also often seen running around in dolls clothes....I prefer the napping version flaked out on my lap!

It is the season for greens! But don't worry more will come...

Furthermore, I have had some inquiries about Mini Market! We do not run the Mini Market in the Summer, I am sorry about the inconvenience! But if you have a product you want we can bring it to drop off! My dad, Aunts, our myself are quite happy to take pre-orders, as most stufff is stocked in the Farm Stand!

Don't forget every Tuesday & Saturday at On Farm pick up there will be fresh baked bread from Homestead Harvest! As well as frozen cookies in the freezer & home made ice cream made from Sargent Family Dairy milk! Milk from Sargent Family Dairy, cheese curds, and our pork & beef, Yellowlees lamb, and our eggs! I apologize for forgetting to place the milk order last week, my bad to those who came to get it! Maple Syrup from Tallboy Roaster, Peppercorn, Corn flour, dried beans from Hillside Harvest, Teas from Foggy River, and Freeze dried treats from Forever Foods!

I am sad to say honey will be a little scarce at the farm initially as our resident bee keeper lost 100% of his hives. This has never happened on our farm before, I am wondering where they put the newest cell towers ??? And the fact that there have been two more farms stripped for cash cropping 4 or 5km behind us to the North, so sad :( Anyhow, he is restocking, and hoping for the best!

Well that is all, I gotta go do chores! See you at drop offs!

Cheers your farmer, Jess
