Hello Garden Folks,
Well this is the last basket before your Holiday Celebrations! I am happy to say we still have an incredible selection of greens for this time of year, as well as Prima Apples in 5lbs bags, and Palatine Fruits & Roses Apples in 2lbs bags. Rene & Eve reached out to see if we wanted any apples and
I could not resist, I mean why not try and have some for the whole Winter CSA? This week on offer from Palatine are Red Luv, these guys are tart & sweet all at once, supper high in antioxidants, and red fleshed to the core! Last cider delivery I bought a case to try and well had to get more to share I loved them so much!!! I am a fresh Cortland/Empire apple kinda person, and very picky about apples but the Red Luv passed the test.
I am also excited to say we have onions and leeks, these are from John Woods the potato guy, they are not certified organic but are grown without spray. Our storage onions where in short supply this year, I had grown Sturon for years and now I can't/could not find the seed anymore, and have been testing out new varieties. ( This seems to happen, it is an older open pollinated variety so no plant breeders rights, possibly not as lucrative, so they replace with a fancy hybrid, but that is just my assumption!)
We also have Kendal Hills Mushrooms back, after a long struggle with production issues, changes in spawn & substrate suppliers, Dave feels he has maybe resolved all the issues. If that is even possible in the realm of farming!
On the farm seed orders are being completed, horse training is underway, and soon we will be in the bush hauling out wood and cleaning up from the crazy June storm. So many things to do to prepare for next year and another growing season.
By the way on the 17th there will/should be Apple Cider back in stock if all goes as planned!
I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season and we will see you in the New Year! January 8th is the first 2023 Winter CSA basket delivery day!
Cheers your farmer,
Jess
