Hello Lake Barcroft CSA Members!
We are so excited to deliver our first CSA box of the year. We have been so busy this spring planting, butchering, weeding, and watering and are excited to share our wonderful food with you all. One of the things we love about farming is learning how to eat seasonally. Unlike at the grocery store where every variety of vegetable is available year round, our offerings ebb and flow with what is in season. That means that we can offer you the freshest, highest quality produce and gives us the opportunity to research new recipes for those unique spring veggies. For example this box will be a lot of greens but each different variety has a different profile and use. We recommend fully using your Harvie membership by looking at the recipe forum for amazing spring green recipes.
One byproduct of the pandemic which you all might not have known about is butcher facilities are absolutely booked up. At the beginning of COVID big meat processing plants were hit hard so the smaller butchers that we rely on were absolutely overbooked. We are so lucky to have snuck in a few butcher dates so have fresh lamb, beef, and chicken to offer you all. Most farmers our size have zero access to butchering right now so we are grateful for the facilities that have reached out to us when they have time to butcher one or two beeves for us.
We also are so excited to offer you all plant starts. It seems like everyone has gotten into gardening with the stay at home orders and the selection at Lowes and Home Depot is pretty picked over. Now you have access to high quality, organic vegetable starts from our farm! There is nothing better than a home grown tomato and we have some amazing varieties growing in our greenhouses.
