Happy September!
The cooler mornings and evenings, along with shorter daylenths, leaves us nostalgic. Is summer waning? The solanaceae plants tell us that perhaps it is. Only a few weeks until Fall officially starts but we are hungry here for these Fall like temperatures. The scallions are ready as you can see the crew laboring over their harvest pictured above.
These scallions were started from seed here on the farm many months ago. We let them get nice and hardy before transplanting them then keeping them cultivated and watered during the heat of the summer they are ready to be pulled now. You will see them again this week along with the leeks. The crisp sweet Walla Wallas are finished for this year but Jenna has just seeded them for our November planting, the overwinter crop plan is coming into play these September days.
We are considering a farm gathering. Perhaps a CSA member farm to table dinner where your table is for your friends and family, 6 feet apart. Do let us know if you would be interested and we will get a plan together.
Take care, stay well and share with us your thoughts, recipes, likes/dislikes, musings and pictures of another summer!
