Farm Happenings for October 26, 2021

Posted on October 18th, 2021 by Lisa Duff

Hello Farm-ily!

This is the last farm happening for the Summer Shares. Thank you to all who joined us for Summer. We hope the memory of delicious, juicy heirloom tomatoes will keep you going through the darker days of winter.

Keep a look out for add on CSA shares through the rest of the year...our high tunnels are filled with seedlings to keep us growing, albeit slowly, through the fall and winter.

Spring share 2022 will start the March 22-May 3, 2022. A short, limited availability & delivery 7 week share for the earlier of greens, roots and shoots! Sign up here before it's sold out. Same 3 sizes you're used to with weekly egg and cheese add-ons.

In our final quarter of 2021 we reflect on the year. I spoke of this in my last Sunday Self Care post on the FB Farm-ily. It's time to look at the good, the bad, the ugly and the wonderful. One thing I can say that is wonderful is this crew. The crew works hard, rain or shine, freezing or sweltering hot, to get this food harvested fresh and on time. They show up with hats and gloves, rain pants and jackets in March, sun hats, tank tops, shorts and extra water bottles in July and everything else in the in-between. Interns and volunteers come and go but this season long crew has persevered. They work well together. They are willing, even chipper and eager to see what the days tasks bring. They rarely complain. This years crew has been exceptionally upbeat, positive and forward thinking. Many of the changes made from season to season come from the brainstorming of all and I appreciate a crew who inserts their own ideas for change to help us become more efficient and increase our flow.

So for the first time ever we're giving you, our CSA Farm-ily an opportunity to

tip the crew!

Not a requirement, but if you would like to show your appreciation to these hard working up & coming young farmers who work tirelessly to make the Oak Spring CSA they best they can, then here you are!

Tip here

Bread share: Simple County

Cheese share: cheddar

Storage tip: Keep your potatoes in their paper bags in a cooler, dark place but not the fridge! Yes, they will sprout because we don't spray them with growth retardants or any other product that keeps them dormant. Just pluck off the sprouts, it's no big deal.

Recipe of the week: Sesame Ginger Bok Choy

Ingredients:

One head of Bok Choy

2 Tbps sesame oil

1 Tbsp fresh grated or thinly sliced ginger

1 Tbsp garlic, minced

2 Tbsp soy sauce

Toasted sesame seeds for garnish

Heat oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Add garlic, ginger and stir until aromatic, 1-2 minutes. Add chopped Bok Choy - toss to coat, then cover to steam for 2-3 minutes, until softened and leaves have darkened. Add soy sauce and mix to combine. Serve hot with sesame seeds and additional sesame oil to taste! Yum!
