Our ginger harvest needs to be wrapped up with colder nights coming. Many of you will see ginger this week.
We start ginger in late February by sprouting pieces of root in shallow bins of potting mix. Ginger likes it warm and can take several weeks to sprout. Once sprouted it's planted in the high tunnel and hoed like potatoes, keeping the roots covered and well watered. Fresh ginger is tender & crisp (you can use the whole plant) with a very fresh taste compared to cured roots you buy in the store. Enjoy!
Other veggies you'll see this week are green bell peppers from Peter Siwik, medium sized and good for stuffing.
The last of the cherry tomatoes and ripe tomatoes this week. WE still have tomatoes from the field but this has got to be it! The cherry tomatoes are all coming from the tunnel and they are hanging on.
Check out Lisa's blog this week on garlic.
As a country we import 225 million pounds of garlic annually and we eat 2 pounds each per year. I bet I eat more than that!!
Read why it's SO important to support the American garlic industry. As a CSA member you get first choice on our Certified Organic garlic grown right here in Freeland, MD. It is the best money can buy!
Thanks and have a good week!
