A Week of Plenty Whole Season Share #8

Posted on July 19th, 2024 by Lisa Duff

We love to cook as much as we love to grow healthy, delicious ingredients because there's nothing better than sharing a tasty home-cooked meal.

That's why we share tips and our favorite recipes that use our crops.

This week, find your inner "little chef" and create a ratatouille worthy of even the toughest critics-YOUR KIDS!

Perhaps the kids will get involved as you artfully arrange the thinly sliced vegetables, and pretend to be in the kitchen of Gusteau's, where the magic of food and flavor come alive.

In this summer season of plenty, OSF is bursting with vibrant colors and flavors.

From the abundance of squash, eggplant, and onions to the juicy tomatoes just catching their stride, choice is abundant and something for everyone.

The half inch of rain that fell this week was a lifesaver. I was so smitten with it that I wrote a haiku.

Rain only in dreams

Liquid life finally falls

Await the magic

On a less savory note.....Around the farm, we are experiencing a high volume of Harlequin beetles.

The broccoli was ripped out yesterday, destroyed.

The kale, which gave and gave in beautiful abundance is being ripped out next week, riddled with the beetles.

The cucumber beetles won in the high tunnel and most of the cucumbers are gone.

We will try again for a second crop.

The good news is we have some Salt n Pepper cukes fairing well in the field. Fingers crossed. The melons and spaghetti squash look healthy so far as well.

And the field tomatoes are going bezerk!  Lots of tomatoes for you this week ;). Buy extra if you're looking for a big tomato pie, homemade tomato sauce, and lots of fresh tomato, basil and mozzarella salad!

Cheers to eating and celebrating local, fresh food!
