Hello Everyone!
Welcome to 2021!
We're so excited to be starting our brand new Spring Shares. This is our first time growing so much, so early, and in the hoop house. Robyn and I felt like gardeners starting our little plots in the hoop house. We did a preliminary harvest of a few items, that are available in the store, and it felt great to be "in the field" again. Beginning harvesting meant that we did a full Spring cleaning of the barn/pack shed last week, and we're ready to kick the first shares off with everything nice and clean and organized.
Over the late Fall and early Spring Grampa Dan (aka Farmer Dan) has been constructing a new to us hoop house. We're hoping for some perfect weather conditions in the next week or two so we can put the plastic on it. This involves pulling the plastic over the top of the structure, stretching it out and holding it in place with wiggle wire. This hoop house is about half the size of the current one and we plan to grow tomatoes in it this season.
Along with the hoop house we've also got a lot going on in the greenhouse and in the field. The greenhouse has been very busy with the plant sale seedlings and transplants for the field for our regular season. We've already put so much in the field. Peas, carrots, beets, and parsnips were directly seeded into the ground and are just starting to peek out of the soil. Broccoli, kale, chard, parsley, cabbage, fennel and kohlrabi all have their first transplants in the ground, with more to successions to come. Asparagus had it's earliest start ever, but with the cold overnight temps we've been having it's slowed to almost a complete halt. The long term forecast is looking much nicer though, and we expect asparagus to make a great comeback.
That's all for now, thanks!
