Hello Members!
We hope you are enjoying your first shares of the season. The dry May and cold June have sure made things a little behind, but we can see what's ahead and it sure looks exciting. Peas are in full flowering as are green beans, the broccoli is heading up and the tomatoes are growing like weeds and getting ready to set flowers. With over 30 different crops growing on our 5 acres of fields, there is always something to look forward to!
As many of you have noticed, we tried NOT using plastic liner bags in the first 2 weeks of shares. Instead we were trying to put only leafy green things in a green bio bag. The plan hasn't panned out like we had hoped. Items are being left behind in boxes because they get missed and there is some quality concerns due to too not enough moisture/coldness amongst the produce that isn't pre-bagged (i.e. kale bunch or head of lettuce). Also, many people are understandably putting everything into the green bio bags which is smashing the precious items on the bottom. :(
So we are switching BACK TO A CLEAR PLASTIC LINER BAG starting next week. We know that some of you don't love the use of the bigger bags but we hope you can find a way to repurpose them in your homes. We cannot accept them back due to food safety concerns. Please either use them again (great for small trash bags or litter box liners) or recycle them at your local grocery store receptacle with your plastic shopping bags.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!
