Is anybody else surprised by this May weather? These dry, hot days are not typical May weather we would expect. We are hopeful for rain tomorrow and especially thankful for use of water at our new farm property.
Now that you have this fresh, local produce, do you know how to store it? Store your produce properly to keep it crisp and delicious as long as possible. If your produce is not in a bag, put it in a bag. Then put your bags in the refrigerator. If it is a root vegetable (turnips, radishes, beets, and kohlrabi, for example) and the greens are still attached, remove the greens and then store the greens and roots in your bags in the refrigerator. There are a couple exceptions - garlic, potatoes, and tomatoes - which should NOT go in the refrigerator. Garlic and potatoes are best stored in a dark place and tomatoes lose their flavor in the refrigerator.
Just in case you have not heard the good news, our family is also growing! Heather is pregnant and due the end of June. We are incredibly excited to share that we will be adding another little farm hand very soon. We are so grateful and are ready to meet this little one.
Be sure to read your label carefully, bring your own bags, and leave ice packs, liners, and boxes upon pick up. Pick up your box on your pick up day and during your pick up time. Home delivery members should provide a cooler with ice packs.
