Hello. This beautiful week has been such a nice gift. I love October, and it's weeks like this that remind me why. Today was an important harvest day for us because the forecast calls for a frost over the weekend. Our low land fields tend to get hit fairly quickly by cold nights. So we spent as much time as we could today harvesting as many peppers, eggplant, fennel, and other above ground crops as we could. With our walk-in cooler, we can utilize them for the next few weeks.
We also pulled in a major harvest of butternut squash from the field. Probably our biggest winter squash harvest we've ever had here at the farm. So we look forward to supplying you with some great butternuts this coming week. And for those of you who have not had a chance at our fresh ginger, be sure to opt in for that one. It's a great product.
This coming Tuesday we are excited to sit and eat with others at Mediterra Cafe in Sewickley. They are hosting a Fall Harvest Feast--celebrating all that is in season and featuring a ton of products from Rivendale Farms. Seats are limited. We hope to see some of you there! Pictured above is me with Mediterra's Executive Chef, Aniceto Sousa, when he came to visit us at the farm this week for find inspiration for his meal.
Have a great one,
Farmer Neil, on behalf of the crew
ps--The last week of CSA is Tuesday November 5. Please keep bringing back your flattened produce boxes if they are in good shape. We are happy to find a reuse for them.
