Greetings from the farm. It's been a bit of a wet week. But the "to do" list is always long enough to find good chores to be done in any kind of weather. Our Crop Production Manager, Susanna, reminded me today that wet weather is the reason we plant most of our crops in raised beds. Plant roots don't like to be saturated with standing water. So we keep the roots happy by mounding up their soil to be higher than the footpaths next to them. On weeks like this one, it makes a big difference in plant health.
Thanks to our CSA members, we are spending a lot of time harvesting these days. Peas, peas, and more peas. Sugar snap peas and purple snow peas are at their pinnacle right now. If you enjoy them, be sure to load up on them in your box.
And speaking of boxes. You are welcome to return your broken down, empty CSA box to most pickup locations. If storage becomes an issue, we will let you know. Please do not send back bags, rubber band, egg cartons, etc. We just want your clean boxes. Thanks!
On behalf of the crew,
Neil
