High Winds Wednesday Night ruined 2 of our tunnels for greens production.
What a week it has been both on the farm and in the world...
This week the whole farm crew is feeling a bit worn out from the onset of the summer heat, the storm that ruined 2 of our tunnels for salad greens production on Wednesday night, and the significance of the protests happening around the country and world this last week.
Here at Robinette, we are a small but mighty crew that is composed of mostly women, and a couple members of our staff that are people of color or LBGTQ. We value all humans at Robinette Farms and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. Our hearts are heavy but uplifted at the same time seeing all the wonderful humans across the globe peacefully protest for equality and change in our country and world.
These protests are only the beginning of many difficult conversations, decisions, and collaborations that will take time to work out. We support all who are fighting to repair these systemic injustices and will continue to do all we can to support local BIPOC community members and farmers around the country.
Farming in America is founded on injustice and the 98% white of us who are farmers are farming within a framework of privilege. What can we do to help correct it? We are educating ourselves, reaching out to work collaboratively with anyone we can, and keeping the conversations going.
Thank you for supporting local food systems!
