This is a big year for our family...all 3 of our children will be in school! Nina will be in 3rd grade and Roisin and Fiona will be in Kindergarten! What will we do with all of the kids out of the house for most of the day? The potential for productivity is astounding! We will miss them but will appreciate the ability to get through some of our never ending lists of daily chores and projects.
The last 9 years of starting the farm and starting a family (insert a bit of trauma in there too...) have been a whirlwind of parenting both our own kids and the farm as it grows up. We are finally at a point where we can focus on growing our business and finding the right mix of solid Robinette Crew Members to push the farm forward and increase our efficiency and productivity. Alex and I are excited and full of ideas for how Robinette Farms will grow and how we will get there!
Alex also has diverse interests and has recently put a fair amount of time into his new podcast, called Science For the Rest of Us. It focuses on scientific issues that are politically or socially controversial, but that are relatively clear-cut in the scientific world. There are issues all across the political spectrum where the underlying science is misunderstood, ignored, or distorted, so chances are we'll talk about everyone's sacred cow at some point! ;-) The first episode is on genetic engineering, and the second episode is about climate change -- both very relevant in our farm life.
So it's busy and ever-changing, but for now, we are planting the last of our big fall crops of roots and getting as many green leafy things in the ground as possible. We are hoping for a glorious fall and we are excited to move into the last half of the summer CSA.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for information about signing up for the Fall CSA!
Happy Eating,
Farmer Chloe
