Another beautiful spring week in the books! We couldn't be happier with this amazing weather we are having and the green garlic in the picture above feels the same way we do!
This weekend (4/26) is our first Farmers' Market of the season! I can't believe it's already market time, but here we go!
We attend the Sunday Farmers' Market in Lincoln which runs April 26th through the end of October. This market is a growers only market and it has strict rules about only selling what you grown on your own farm. This is an important distinction for a farmers' market to have; for many years, farmers' markets have been increasing in numbers, and sometimes these markets have no rules regarding how local products actually are.
I have been to many farmers' markets that sell bananas and mangoes and avocados in locations where there is NO way you can grow those crops! We are proud to be a part of this true FARMERS' market, where more often than not you can have a real conversation with the farmer who is actually growing the food they are selling.
We also attend the Old Market Farmers' Market in Omaha and for the first time this year have a CSA distribution at this market too! This market runs the first Saturday in May through the middle of October.
The Old Market was a new market for us beginning in 2018 and we are excited to continue to get to know the Omaha food community! We made some great connections and new friends last year and are looking forward to the 2019 season!
On another note, it's almost MAY! What?! May is a BUSY BUSY month on the farm where we are planting and planting and all of a sudden weeding and weeding...and everything is growing inches each week!
Thankfully we have our amazing crew to keep us on top of our long list of tasks! As I write this, they are washing produce and bunching garlic for the farmers' market and all I hear is giggling and storytelling! ;)
Have a great weekend!
