Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter, Week 31&32, Dec 27
---- Winter Vegetables ----
Festival Squash (the colorful yellow and orange striped squash) is our longest lasting squash. We will still have it for the next 2 deliveries. Turnips - peel off the outer layer, then slice into cubes, mix half and half with potatoes and some onions for fried potatoes.
---- Sourdough Bread ----
We will continue to offer Sourdough Bread from Diamond City. Plain sourdough, plus 2 flavored sourdough types will be offered. If you want to save a loaf for later, it freezes very well. You can also slice it, then freeze it, and just pull out a few slices at a time.
---- Honey Bees Hunker Down ----
Snow is on the hive, and its getting below zero - but the bees are still doing fine. Clinging together in a ball, fueled by honey, they can maintain a temperature of 90 degrees in the center. We help them by adding a heat tape on the outside to help moderate the coldest nights, plus a 2 inch layer of insulation (old lawn furniture cushions). So far so good.
