Farm Happenings for July 20, 2021

Posted on July 16th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Hope you stayed cool the past few days.  We had dreary weather to start the week and straight oven to end it.  The unfortunate part is the extra rains, tropical moisture from Elsa and pro-longed foggy/moist weather was the perfect environment for disease to form and spread of some crops.  Downey mildew thrives in that kind of weather and it can be a real problem for farmers and will be as we have seen small pockets of it and have heard other farms say similar stories.  So if you have a garden or a few plants, make sure they are getting proper sunlight and plenty of airflow, and try to stay in front of the weeds as this is make or break season with weeds.

If you haven't tried the sweet corn I highly suggest getting extra!!  It is some of the sweetest corn around and after you have 1.. you end up having 3 or 4.  We even had a very nice customer at our stand come back and complain that the corn was too sweet!  Yup.. that was a first!  Enjoy the weekend and keep enjoying those goodies!

Your Farmer,

John
