Sorry I didn't get this email to you last night but I didn't come in off the fields until after 7, trying to beat the rain. What a perfect, timely rain for us as we go into a 10 day dry spell. We can't thank GOD enough for rains like this in peak growing season. In eastern Idaho the government has issued a water curtailment to the Snake River Valley of 500,000 acres. Meaning, farmers and ranchers have planted their crops, invested millions of dollars and are now told their water will be turned off for. This will be devastating to those farmers, but it puts even greater risk to our food supply system. It also puts into light the severity our creating our own local food economy and system and why we do what we do.
So enjoy this weekend, and pray for those farmers and ranchers of eastern Idaho who may have planted their last crops ever.
Your farmer,
John Zilnicki
