June started off cool here on the farm, but this week has quickly escalated to summer weather. We added irrigations lines to crops that didn't have them yet and reminded our staff (again!) about the importance of hydration and salts. This is how we help both people and plants be as ready as we can for multiple days with temps at or near 90 degrees. The Broccoli and Cabbages went into this week quite happy, but we shall see how they fare after these hot temps! The season for these crops in the spring tends to be very short due to the onslaught of heat. Their season in the fall extends longer.
We're delighted to be pulling a lot of carrots out of the ground for you this week! As the most challenging crop we grow, this winter we gave these precious carrots a lot of attention with overabundant and repeated seedings. That doesn't always result in an abundance of spring carrots, however, so we are extra grateful that it seems to have worked out decently here in 2020. Enjoy the results of that work!
Salad greens, Rainbow Chard, Kale, Sweet Salad Turnips, Cucumbers and more are also thriving right now while the Tomatoes and Sweet Peppers are slowly continuing to grow, mature, and ripen. Enjoy your options this week!
