It's back-to-school week for a lot of families around here, and a hectic schedule re-adjustment, we know. :) Historically, this week has the most forgotten share pick-ups of any week in the season. Set yourself a reminder alarm now!
Tomatoes, Beans, and Okra are waning this week, but Eggplant, Cucumbers, and Squash are doing well. Kale and Arugula make an appearance this week! We're also making available to you a perennial green called Purslane. It has a small, tear-drop shaped leaves and a mild citrusy flavor. It is great as a raw green or in a saute (it wilts down quickly). Check out this Purslane Salad and this Steamed Purslane recipe (uses just a bit of oil, garlic, salt and pepper...easy!), but really -- use it in any way that you would spinach.
We are so lucky to have such an abundance of delicious food (and beautiful flowers!) come from this land we farm. Enjoy it all!
Best,
Janet & Dan
